Just after finishing my degree at Edinburgh College of Art in '98, I entered the National gallery of Scotland on the Mound and I  took solace in old Renaissance painting. seeing  the accomplishment attained and what these masters could do with paint.. I realised I was deprived of certain kind of visual stimulus at art college in exchange for an overly theoretical approach. After leaving college I suppose I needed the complete opposite.

Though after a while, and one Renaissance painting too many in the long corridors of oversized national collections of pillage taken from other nations' pillage. I again needed the opposite: less visual stimulus and a more theoretical approach.

Influences in no particular order: -

The Renaissance (ha ha), Talitha Kotze, Susan Hiller, Luc Tuymans, John Currin, Richard Dawkins, Stuart Murray, life drawing, Neil Mulholland, John Beagles, Radio 4, art books, Rebecca Elphinstone, Grazzia, Jeff Koons, Wim Delvoye, Smog, Bonnie Prince Billy, La Specola, Daniel Dennet, Theo van Leeuwen & Gunter Kress, Kenneth le Riche.
